Thousands of banned Tahreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) continued their sit-in in Wazirabad for the second day on Saturday, as they wait for their leader’s instruction to move forward, Dawn reported.
The workers, who reached from Gujranwala to Wazirabad on Friday they spend the night at Zafar Ali Khan bypass. The traffic services were remain suspended and the local business also closed in the city.
Hundreds of Rangers and police officers were positioned at the Chenab toll plaza on Friday to resist the protestors.
According to police reports, the security men are also equipped with armored vehicles and riot gear.
The Punjab Rangers drew a ‘red line’ around 500 meters from the Chenab toll plaza and posted a sign nearby telling protestors not to cross it or face consequences.
A day earlier, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said negotiations were underway between the government and detained TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi on ending the proscribed group’s march to Islamabad.
Ahmed said the government wanted to “amicably” resolve the matter of the protest march, which has disrupted life in several Punjab cities for two weeks.
The minister announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan would address the nation about the current security situation, saying “he will present the entire situation before the nation and his speech will explain the narrative of the government.”
