After being summoned by the supreme court to attend a hearing on the Army Public School (APS) massacre, Prime Minister Imran Khan has chosen to appear before the Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Wednesday).
The case is being heard by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists invaded the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16, 2014, killing over 140 people, the majority of whom were pupils.
The case was heard today, and the Supreme Court asked the prime minister to come before the bench in his capacity when the hearing continues at 11:30 a.m.
During the last hearing of the case, parents of children slain in the 2014 terrorist attack appealed to the court that they had lost their children in the attack and that the Supreme Court should call the country’s senior civil and military authorities and file cases against them.
The parents of the victims had also asked the Supreme Court to conduct a transparent investigation into the tragedy. The court had urged Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan to conduct the assessment and report back to the court on any actions taken, such as an investigation or the filing of criminal prosecution against those responsible.
When the hearing began today, the court requested an update from the attorney general, who responded that no FIRs could be filed against the senior leadership.
