Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, has recently announced one-step promotions for government employees who were released after being arrested during Islamabad protests. Along with the promotions, the employees have been granted a week’s leave and a stipend of Rs 10,000, as reported by Express News.
The announcement followed the release and return of officials to Peshawar, including 34 police personnel, 7 TMAs, and 42 rescue workers. Late last night, 86 detainees, including two PTI provincial assembly members, 46 Rescue 1122 staff, 25 police officers, and 13 municipal employees, were released from District Jail Attock. These individuals had been detained at various locations—Attock, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad—during their participation in Gandapur’s convoy and faced multiple charges, including those under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The court’s approval of bail petitions led to their release, and upon their arrival, Gandapur welcomed them with flower garlands in a show of support.
In a related update last month, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reported that a total of 564 individuals were arrested during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests, including 11 plainclothes officers from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police—a first in Pakistan’s history where police were involved in protests. The detained group also included 120 Afghan nationals, according to Express News.
