Senator Faisal Vawda has made a startling revelation about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) tenure in government, claiming that the medical reports of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif were fabricated. Speaking during a recent appearance, the former PTI leader alleged, “We were sitting at home and preparing Nawaz Sharif’s platelet report,” referring to the controversial medical reports from 2019 that facilitated Nawaz Sharif’s departure to England for medical treatment.
At the time, the imprisoned Nawaz Sharif was reported to be suffering from a serious immune disorder. A six-member medical board, led by Services Hospital Principal Ayaz Mahmood, diagnosed him with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)—a bleeding disorder where the immune system attacks platelets. The medical findings prompted his release on health grounds, allowing him to travel abroad for treatment.
Vawda’s recent comments have reignited the controversy surrounding Nawaz’s health reports. He also took a dig at former PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair, sarcastically stating, “We did you a favour at that time. At least be thankful for that.”
In response, PML-N leader Javed Latif dismissed Vawda’s claims as baseless. Latif said, “The first thing I need to clarify is that Generals Pasha, Zaheer, Raheel Sharif, Faiz, and Bajwa all conspired against Nawaz Sharif by propping up Saqib Nisar.” He added that the PML-N government had faced significant challenges after the 2018 elections, saying, “We couldn’t secure a simple majority and had to rely on cooperation. Now, they taunt us for our difficult position at that time.”
When asked by anchor Kamran Shahid on ARY News if Vawda’s claims were credible, Javed Latif categorically denied them, stating, “It is completely a lie.”
Vawda, however, stood by his statements, asserting that he had previously raised the issue in cabinet meetings. He also hinted at upcoming political turmoil, specifically regarding one of the country’s provincial governors. Speaking on ARY News’ show Aiteraz Hai last Friday, he said, “A provincial governor will be in troubled waters soon, and his time is up.” While not naming the individual, Vawda alleged that the governor had been engaging in corrupt practices, adding, “The governor in question has been selling his name, making money, and telling lies. Now, his turn has come, and he has to go home soon.”
In a scathing critique of Pakistan’s provincial leadership, Vawda also targeted Chief Ministers, excluding Sindh’s Murad Ali Shah. He remarked, “Apart from Murad Ali Shah, no Chief Minister in the country is capable of writing a paragraph in English.”
The remarks have stirred political debate, with Vawda’s comments raising questions about the credibility of Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports and the governance of provincial leaders.
