PM Shehbaz, COAS Discuss Security Concerns and Vow Action Against Violence

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir held a high-level meeting on Monday to address pressing security issues, including the recent PTI protest in Islamabad that led to the loss of several lives during days-long demonstrations.

While the government did not release official details, sources informed Dawn that the meeting focused on the November 24 D-Chowk protest and resolved to take strict action against those responsible for violence, the killing of security personnel, and damage to state property. “It was decided that no leniency would be shown towards perpetrators of such acts,” the source said.

The meeting, attended by top security officials, also reviewed the rising wave of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Additionally, they discussed the recent statement from KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who threatened another protest march to Islamabad unless PTI founder Imran Khan was released from jail.

The meeting also commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Army Public School tragedy, honoring the victims. Officials provided briefings on internal and external security developments.
