Saudi Arabia has introduced a new currency symbol for the Saudi riyal, the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) announced on Thursday.

According to SAMA, the initiative is designed to enhance the Kingdom’s financial identity on local, regional, and international platforms. It aims to highlight national identity, strengthen cultural ties, and emphasize Saudi Arabia’s role as a member of the G20 and a key player in the global economy.

Developed with the highest technical standards, the new symbol reflects the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and features the word “Riyal” in a design inspired by Arabic calligraphy.

“The symbol will simplify the representation of the Saudi riyal in financial and commercial transactions worldwide,” SAMA stated, adding that it is now suitable for use across all local, regional, and international contexts.

SAMA Governor Ayman Al-Sayari highlighted that the move strengthens the Kingdom’s financial presence globally and aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, underscoring the growing significance of the nation’s economic system, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
