According to Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq, what happened in the meeting with the military leadership? Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami told an English newspaper that key politicians from the government and the opposition had asked the Army Chief DG ISI to discuss the Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir issue before it he had not discussed the issue. A meeting was called on September 16.
Siraj-ul-Haq said that one of the opposition leaders told the Army Chief that Prime Minister Imran Khan should have called such a meeting on this issue of national importance. It was regretted that the Prime Minister did not sit down with the opposition even on national importance issues.
Siraj-ul-Haq said that initially, he was not ready to attend the meeting due to his busy schedule but later when he said that Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir would be discussed in the meeting, he agreed. He said that he had spoken to the Kashmiri leadership before attending the meeting.
Elaborating, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami said that the military leadership wanted to give constitutional status to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan who have been demanding this for many years. The meeting suggested that Gilgit-Baltistan be declared an interim province until the Kashmir issue is resolved.
Siraj-ul-Haq also said that the military leadership said that they know the position of Jamaat-e-Islami on this issue. At the same time, PPP and PML-N insisted that this issue should be left for now and brought Gilgit-Baltistan under discussion after the next elections so that no political party can make this issue a part of the election campaign. Siraj-ul-Haq also clarified that he gave these details only because government minister Sheikh Rashid had already told the media about it.
