Mashal murder case: Court Order to commute the death sentence of main accused to life imprisonment

Peshawar High Court quashes the release of 25 accused in Mashal murder case. According to details, the Peshawar High Court ruled on the appeal of the accused in the Mashal Khan murder case.

In its judgment, the Peshawar High Court annulled the release of 25 accused on bail and ordered the arrest of the 25 accused. The court also upheld the life sentences of seven accused. The three-year imprisonment of the accused has also been upheld.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Mashal’s father had filed appeals against the decision of the anti-terrorism court. The accused had also filed appeals against the decision of the anti-terrorism court. The case was heard by Justice Lal Jan Khattak and Justice Syed Atiq Shah said that the court had reserved its verdict on completion of arguments of the parties.

It may be recalled that the anti-terrorism court has sentenced one accused in the Mashal Khan case to death and four to life imprisonment. Earlier, in February 2018, the court suspended the sentences of 25 accused in the Mashal Khan murder case. The decision was taken after an appeal was heard in the Peshawar High Court Abbottabad bench against the sentences in the case.

Abbottabad Anti-Terrorism Court had sentenced 25 accused in the Mashal Khan murder case to four years imprisonment. But the accused had challenged their sentences in the High Court. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court was also a student of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan. According to the Supreme Court, the accused has been convicted by the trial court. After which there is no need to run the suo motu notice further.
