According to media reports, Railway Minister Azam Swati presented the details in the form of a report to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The report said that due to the non-availability of electricity meters in the railway colonies, a loss of Rs 2.5 billion is incurred annually. Railway employees have been using electricity for years and the financial burden has fallen on the railway department.
The collusion between WAPDA and railway officials has been revealed in this loss. Prime Minister Imran Khan took strong notice of the report presented by the Railway Minister and took notice of the lack of electricity meters in the railway colonies.
The Prime Minister also ordered the immediate installation of 25,000 electricity meters in the railway colonies and said that the process of installing electricity meters in the residential colonies of the railways should be completed in four months.
According to media reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan has also set up a coordination committee to monitor the issue of electricity meters. The Prime Minister’s Office has appointed an officer as coordinator to look into the issue of electricity meters and directed to start the installation of meters in railway colonies from today. Every penny of the national treasury is the trust of the nation. Those who harm the national treasury do not deserve any concessions.
