Researchers at Stanford University performed this study, which was sponsored by Apple. A group of 110 Veterans Affairs patients with the cardiovascular disease received an iPhone 7 and an Apple Watch Series 3 as part of the analysis. Patients conduct a 6-minute walk test at home daily and compare their results to normal outpatient 6MWT results.
According to the report, Apple Watch can reliably measure human vulnerability with a sensitivity of 90% and a precision of 85% when used under clinical supervision. Apple Watch will reliably measure the degree of body fragility when performed in an unsupervised setting at home, with a sensitivity of 83 percent and a precision of 60 percent.
The study’s findings show that passive activity data collected by Apple Watch can reliably predict outpatient 6MWT success.
