PCB Proposes ‘Partnership or Fusion Formula’ to Resolve India-Pakistan Deadlock Over 2025 Champions Trophy

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly evaluating a proposal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to resolve the impasse between Pakistan and India regarding the hosting of the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy.

Scheduled for February-March 2025, the prestigious tournament has become a point of contention between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). To break the stalemate, the PCB has introduced the “Partnership or Fusion Formula,” a solution allowing Pakistan and India to play their matches at neutral venues, such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), while retaining the tournament’s original host country.

This innovative approach aims to ensure that both nations participate without compromising their respective stances. The formula could also extend to other ICC events over the next three years. If accepted by both boards, the plan will take effect starting with the Champions Trophy 2025, set to be held in major Pakistani cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.

The PCB has emphasized that its priority is respect, not financial gain. It has declined offers for additional revenue shares, signaling that the proposal is focused on fostering collaboration rather than monetary benefits. The board hopes this plan will pave the way for a resolution and demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the success of international cricket events.

Discussions around this proposal gained momentum during an ICC board meeting in Dubai, which concluded in under 15 minutes. Behind-the-scenes negotiations between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, top officials, and their Indian counterparts are ongoing in the UAE, with the aim of finding a mutually agreeable solution.

As one of the most prestigious tournaments in cricket, the Champions Trophy 2025 continues to be a focal point in the evolving dynamics of international cricket diplomacy.
