While keeping the pressing issue of climate change in view, the National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad arranged a Seminar on “Climate Change and Pakistan in the Age of Adaptation” on 10th November 2022 under the supervision of Director Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif and Seminar Coordinator Ms. Sara Imtiaz. This seminar was delivered by Prof. Dr. Adil Najam (Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University) while Dr. Muhammad Ali (Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University) and Prof Dr. Muhammad Idress (Dean of Social Sciences, Quaid-i-Azam University) were honorary guests of the event. Dr. Adil shared that climate change is the most perilous and real threat for the present and future world, it started years back and humankind needs to adapt to it while making effective plans and policies. He added that despite of facing the repercussions of climate change, Pakistan needs to develop indigenous strategies including building ponds, conserving Indus Basin and other water resources, and using public or larger transport means instead of using multiple personal vehicles. With respect to the discussion of the aftermaths of climate change, Dr. Adil Najam, Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, and Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized the psychological impacts of the depletion of resources and natural disasters. They, further, shed light on the significance of conducting action research on climate change in social sciences and advocacy and awareness of the said issue by social scientists; particularly psychologists).
