ISLAMABAD: The High Court suspended the cases filed against Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed in Mochko and Lasbela. Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of Islamabad High Court heard the petition of Sheikh Rasheed to stop his transfer to Karachi and to hold contempt of court against the police. While the police registered a case on the same request and made an arrest. The lawyer added that another FIR against Sheikh Rasheed was registered in Mochko Karachi. The court inquired that the place of giving the statement is polyclinic hospital, so how was the case registered in Karachi? The court restrained the police from acting on the cases registered against Sheikh Rasheed in Mochko (Karachi) and Lasbela (Balochistan). The Islamabad High Court issued notices to the Attorney General and Advocate General suspending the FIRs registered against Sheikh Rasheed in Mochako and Lasbela. The court also issued notices to the bar councils in this regard.
During the hearing, the court remarked that how can there be FIRs in different cities on the same incident? The lawyer said that the third case was registered in Murree, on which the court inquired whether an arrest has been made in these three cases?, the lawyer said that only one case has been arrested.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri remarked that the law says that when an arrest is made in one case, it is also done in the rest. The lawyer told the court that Sheikh Rasheed was tied to a chair at an unknown place and kept for 6 hours. During this time, political questions were asked and violence was also done.
The court remarked that I do not understand where this series will stop. Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri said that you had filed terrorism cases against the Information Secretary and MDPTV. Now the same thing is happening to you. Just think what would have happened if the lady information secretary had been arrested and taken away by Budhbir police.
