The European Union (EU) has called on Israeli authorities to take immediate action to end tensions in Jerusalem.

In a statement, European Foreign Office spokesman Peter Stano said tensions and violence in the occupied West Bank, especially in East Jerusalem, had risen to “dangerous levels” in recent days. As a result, several people were injured.

The spokesman said that violence and provocation are unacceptable and all perpetrators should be held accountable, so the authorities should take immediate action to defuse the current tension and respect the status quo by avoiding provocative measures.

Spokesman Peter Stano called on political, religious, and social leaders on all sides to show restraint and responsibility and do everything possible to calm the uncertainty.

On the other hand, the spokesman also expressed concern over the situation regarding the eviction of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarara and other areas of East Jerusalem.

The spokesman said that all such actions are illegal under international human rights law, which only increases tensions in the region.
