The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a writ petition seeking a ban on New Year’s Eve fireworks in the federal capital on Friday.
The petition filed by an Islamabad resident was dismissed as non-maintainable by an IHC bench led by Chief Justice Athar Minallah.
“Let people have fun,” said the top IHC judge. “This occurs all over the world, not just in Pakistan.”
According to the petitioner, the Islamabad deputy commissioner granted a no-objection certificate (NOC) for a fireworks display outside a shopping mall near GT road. He claims that fireworks are held for 30 minutes and attract a large number of people, causing traffic problems.
