Instagram Introduces Content Reset Feature to Enhance Teen Safety and User Experience

Instagram is stepping up its efforts to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for teenagers, who spend significant time on social media platforms. As part of this initiative, the platform is rolling out a new feature to provide users with fresh, age-appropriate, and positive content across Explore, Reels, and Feed.

What’s New with Instagram Reset?

The new “reset” tool allows users to clear their personalized recommendations. By doing so, Instagram will gradually tailor content based on new interactions, aligning with the user’s current interests. Additionally, users can review and unfollow accounts that no longer appeal to them, offering more control over their feeds.

This feature is particularly useful for those dissatisfied with their current recommendations. Users can further fine-tune their Explore page by selecting the “Interested” option on recommended posts.

Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, cautioned that resetting recommendations might initially make the platform feel less engaging. He explained that once the reset is complete, Instagram treats the account as brand new, offering opportunities for targeted marketing by brands.

How to Reset Instagram Recommendations

Resetting Instagram content is simple and involves a few steps:

  1. Open your profile by tapping on your profile picture.
  2. Tap the three-line menu icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Content Preferences, then choose Reset Suggested Content.
  4. Review your follow list, make necessary changes, and tap Confirm.

Gradual Global Rollout

The reset feature will be introduced gradually worldwide and is expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks.

This initiative underscores Instagram’s commitment to improving user experience while promoting a safer and more positive online environment.
