Tehran: A spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry has not denied or confirmed media reports of secret talks with Saudi Arabia, but has hinted at keeping the door open for talks.

According to the International News Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzada said that Iran has always welcomed talks with Saudi Arabia because the talks are beneficial for both countries.

Speaking to the media, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman did not deny or confirm the secret talks with Saudi Arabia on April 9 but said that the practice of spreading fake and controversial news in the media is also old.

Saudi Arabia has denied media reports of secret talks with Iran. Relations between the two countries have been strained since 2016 when a Shiite cleric was beheaded in Riyadh.

It should be noted that a report published in the international news agency “Reuters” and the Financial Times claimed that secret talks were held on April 9 between the diplomats of Iran and Saudi Arabia on Yemen.
