The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has dismissed rumors circulating on social media about an unprecedented cold wave and snowfall in the country.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PMD refuted claims of experiencing “the coldest days and nights in 100 years” between January 12 and 15, as well as reports of snowfall in central Punjab akin to Saudi Arabia. The department labeled these assertions as baseless and lacking scientific validity.

The PMD explained that snowfall in central Punjab is geographically and climatically impossible, urging the public to disregard such misinformation. It clarified that while most regions of Pakistan will experience cold and dry weather, there is no indication of an exceptionally severe or historic cold spell.

On January 11, light rain or drizzle, accompanied by strong winds, is expected to affect several areas, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Pakpattan.

The PMD advised citizens to rely on information shared through its official channels and avoid unverified reports from unofficial sources, which can cause unnecessary alarm. The department reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate weather updates to ensure public safety.
