Tensions erupted during a high-level meeting in Peshawar, attended by Army Chief General Asim Munir, as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur exchanged sharp words, sources revealed on Thursday.

The confrontation reportedly began when the governor brought up the allocation of Rs500 billion under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award. Governor Kundi accused the chief minister of making misleading statements, prompting Gandapur to walk out of the meeting, accusing the governor of dishonesty.

Amid the heated exchange, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asfandyar Wali intervened, reportedly remarking, “Let it go, this one is just a child.” Gandapur later rejoined the meeting after a brief absence.

During the clash, the governor also raised concerns over the usage of funds received from the federal government for counter-terrorism efforts. He questioned why the police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had not been strengthened despite the significant financial allocation.

Governor Kundi stated that KP had received Rs500 billion under the NFC award for counter-terrorism but questioned the lack of progress in the province’s security infrastructure.

When asked by sources about his meeting with the chief minister, Governor Kundi dismissed the reports of conflict, saying: “You have received incorrect information.”

The incident occurred during COAS Asim Munir’s visit to Peshawar, where he met with top provincial leaders. The Army Chief emphasized the importance of stability, stating, “If there is a state, there is politics. God forbid, without a state, there is nothing.”
