The Ministry of Science and Technology has failed to brief the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over the specifications of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
The ECP under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Raja Sikandar Sultan on June 1 and 2 held two consecutive meetings for the purpose to get a detailed briefing from the MoST over the EVM. However, the MoST instead of briefing the Commission sought some more time for the completion of work on the EVM.
The ministry informed the commission that they needed some more time to complete all relevant work on the EVM. The ministry said that the work on EVM to be finalized in the third week of July this year is about the time frame.
Meanwhile, the ECP told the ministry that it appreciated its help, but it would also take relevant stakeholders on board before it transitions towards electronic voting as per its constitutional responsibility.
