Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman made an important announcement after being removed from the post of Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

According to details, a day after being removed from the chairmanship of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman launched an anti-government campaign on legislation on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) under the umbrella of the newly formed Movement for the Protection of Mosques and Madrassas.

According to a private TV report, the campaign was launched by Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman himself during a conference organized by the newly formed group. The press conference was attended by several scholars belonging to the Ahl-e-Hadith and Deoband schools of thought. Conference speakers said the law was imposed under a conspiracy against Islamic institutions under the guise of registering religious schools.

Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said parliament passed the law under pressure. He said, “Religious restrictions are not acceptable in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and we will resist if the authorities try to impose them,”. On the occasion, Secretary-General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that the Ulema present in the Parliament is at the forefront of defending against any law which is against Islam.

He further said that the Prime Minister should take u-turns and withdraw this law. It may be recalled that in a joint sitting of the parliament in September, the government had succeeded in passing legislation on FATF. It may be mentioned here that on December 30, the federal government removed Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, from his post and appointed Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, superintendent of Badshahi Masjid Lahore, as the new chairman of the committee. Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman was made chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee 20 years ago in 2000 and a re-notification was issued in 2012.
