President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the Anti-Rape Ordinance 2020.
The ordinance will help expedite cases of sexual abuse against women and children. Special courts will be set up across the country to expedite trials and cases of rape accused as soon as possible and special courts will deal with rape cases within four months.
Under the ordinance, Prime Minister Imran Khan will set up an anti-sexual abuse crisis cell, which will be authorized to conduct a medico-legal examination of victims within six hours, while the National Identity Card Authority (NADRA) With the help of the National Register of Sexual Offenders will be prepared. The ordinance prohibits revealing the identities of rape victims, making the act a punishable offense.
