In an effort to cut spending in the face of dire economic woes, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif unveiled a series of austerity measures on Wednesday. Most of these initiatives were taken in his cabinet.
After a meeting, he along with other cabinet members announced in a press conference that no ministers, special assistants, or advisers would be paid any salaries or perks.
He said he would pay his electricity bills “out of his own pocket”.
“All expensive vehicles driven by cabinet members will be offered for sale, and only one vehicle will be provided when security requires it,” he said. Also, they will take domestic and international flights in economy class.
