The annual desilting of Khanpur Dam, the main water source for Rawalpindi and Islamabad, is set to take place from February 10 to February 20. Water supply to both cities will be disrupted until the process concludes on February 23.

According to officials, desilting is a routine maintenance procedure aimed at preventing sediment buildup and ensuring efficient water flow. The operation will cover the area from Khanpur Dam to the Sangjani filtration plant.

The Sangjani filtration plant will also undergo cleaning. Authorities have advised residents, businesses, and commercial sectors to store water in advance and limit usage during the disruption.

Those facing urgent shortages can reach out to the Water Supply Branch for assistance.

A private contractor has been assigned to complete the desilting, using both large and small-scale machinery. The water supply is expected to return to normal on February 23 once the work is completed.
