Shifa International Hospital Islamabad recently became Pakistan’s first hospital to complete 1000 living donor liver transplants, marking a watershed moment in the country’s medical history.

On April 30, 2012, the first-ever liver transplant was performed in Shifa on a 12-year-old patient.

Since then, the transplant programme has changed the lives of hundreds of children and adults across Pakistan by serving as a beacon of hope and healing.

Dr Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque, Chief Medical Officer, and Taimoor Shah, Chief Operating Officer, spoke on occasion and praised the entire multidisciplinary team for their collaborative efforts to make this dream a reality.

Dr Haseeb Haider Zia, Dr Nusrat Yar Khan, and Dr Abu Bakar Hafeez Bhatti, the core team of Consultant Liver Transplant Surgeons, described this success as the result of rigorous and dedicated team efforts that enabled them to provide such a complex and advanced surgical treatment to the people of Pakistan with a success rate comparable to international standards.

The team also stated that it is a truly national programme that treats patients from all over the country and far-flung areas.

Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, Pakistan’s largest liver transplant team, provides quality, integrated treatment and is the leading and most extended operating Liver Transplant Center.
