Federal Minister of Energy Hammad Azhar highlighted the importance of biogas production on Friday, saying that the country has been ignoring its “huge potential” for a long time.
The energy minister said on Twitter that the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has now welcomed expressions of interest for generating biogas in its franchise region, citing the importance of biogas.
Pakistan has till now ignored the huge potential of bio-gas for too long now. SSGC has invited the expression of interest for producing bio-gas in its franchise area. SSGC is expecting to produce 4-5 MMCFD through this endeavour as a pilot project. @SSGC_Official

“SSGC is expecting to produce 4-5 mmcfd through this endeavor as a pilot project,” the minister said.
Biogas is a renewable gas generated by breaking down organic matter such as food scraps and animal waste, according to the National Grid.
Biogas may be used to drive cars, generate electricity, and heat homes after it is created.
It’s worth noting that the move comes amid a gas scarcity in the country, with the government deciding last month to keep gas supplies flowing to the electricity and fertilizer industries.
On the other hand, domestic and industrial consumers may face shortages due to a huge gas scarcity in the nation throughout the winter season.
