KARACHI: Legendary Pakistani film actor and chocolate hero Waheed Murad passed away 37 years ago.

City-wide hero opened his eyes on October 2, 1938, at the home of filmmaker Nisar Murad. Furthermore has an MA in English Literature from Karachi University, started his career with the 1962 film Olad.

The actor’s first film as a hero was “Heer aur Pathar”. The 75-week long film “Arman” on the silver screen took Waheed Murad to new heights and he was called the first regular superstar of the Pakistani film industry. He was the only hero in the subcontinent after Dilip Kumar whose hairstyle and costumes were imitated. At one time, the actor set records of success during filmmaking with director Pervez Malik, lyricist Masroor Anwar, musician Sohail Rana, and singer Ahmed Rushdie. Film critics say that Waheed Murad was not an individual but an institution.
