A woman gave birth to a child on the ground of one of Haripur’s biggest government hospitals, in the cold weather.
A man brought his wife to the hospital on Tuesday morning, and she fell to the floor due to severe labour pains. No nurse or medical teams came to help her until she gave delivery on the freezing floor.
Her husband and family members wailed and wept, and as her condition began to deteriorate, the nurses shifted her to the general ward.
According to hospital sources, the incident occurred due to the negligence of the on-duty nurses, who failed to offer a bed to the pregnant woman in the gynecological ward despite its availability. They also stated that there was no gynecologist on duty at the hospital at night and that the incidence happened before 8 a.m.
The woman’s relative said that the nurses refused to treat her because she was poor and that the staff only shifted her to the general ward after she begged them to.
Meanwhile, her husband and family have urged that the incident be investigated.
