KARACHI — On Sunday, a mob forced its way through the main gate during a demonstration by the Sindh Action Committee (SAC) against the huge housing project, setting fire to two foreign fast-food chains, several vehicles, a showroom, and two real agent offices in Bahria Town Karachi (BTK).

To manage the situation, police used tear gas and rubber bullets when thousands of people converged at the housing project from all over the province to organize a peaceful demonstration against “land grabbing,” “forced eviction of villagers,” and “demolition of villages” in the name of development.

The demonstrators, on the other hand, refused to accept responsibility for the unrest, stating that BTK staff set fire to the main gate, the Business Trade Centre, the auto showroom, automobiles, bikes, and other property on their own to add a new dimension to an otherwise peaceful demonstration.

Because the SAC had called for a sit-in outside BTK’s main gate on the M-9 highway ahead of time, police had previously set up containers and makeshift barricades to keep demonstrators from approaching the BTK gate.
