Despite there being a lot of work undone on the Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad International Airport Metro bus Project, the National Assembly on Friday was told that the project will be operational by Mach 23, next year. The National Highway Authority (NHA) is the Executing Agency to construct the 25 km long track. He also informed that almost all of the infrastructure work had been completed by the NHA and the project is ready to be handed over to the Capital Development Authority in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister.
During the question session of the National Assembly, parliamentary secretary Shaukat Ali told that the government had allocated Rs 100 million for the same purpose during the ongoing fiscal year and that the tenders for procurement of buses had been issued. He also added that the infrastructure work on the project has been completed by the NHA, however, the ticketing system and security surveillance were yet to be finalized.
The project was inaugurated way back in 2017 by the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and was to be completed by August 2018, but the work on the project lingered on. Even today by the end of 2021 certain essential requirements like the Security Surveillance System, Command and control center, and ticketing system have not been finalized as yet. Now the Capital Development Authority has approved a separate pc1 to fulfill these requirements before making the project fully operational by March 23, 2022.
Once started the Peshawar Morr to New Airport route would benefit millions of people on daily basis. The masses would be able to enjoy a safe and sound journey in the outskirts of the twin cities. The Metro bus service will provide the commuters of the twin cities with an economical, affordable, and sound journey.
