ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday constituted a five-judge panel to oversee the probe into the death of a prominent journalist who was shot dead in Kenya. 50-year-old journalist Arshad Sharif was killed on October 23 while traveling in a car on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. Kenyan police said it was a case of mistaken identity. The Supreme Court said it has taken up the case voluntarily and is seeking responses from Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Interior, the Federal Investigation Agency and the Intelligence Bureau. "The journalistic community and public at large are deeply saddened and concerned over the death of the senior journalist and are demanding the court to look into the matter," the court said in a statement. The Chief Justice ordered the government to register the First Information Report (FIR) of the murder and submit the report of the fact-finding committee before the court on Wednesday, December 7. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued the directives during the hearing of the suo motu notice of the journalist’s brutal killing. On the order of the Supreme Court, the FIR of the murder of Arshad Sharif Shaheed has been registered in Ramna police station, 3 persons Waqar, Khurram and Tariq Ahmed have been named. On the other side Arshad wife tweeted that, Arshad's family members are still alive, only in my mother-in-law's complaint, the case of Arshad Sharif Shaheed will be registered.
