A grand operation has been announced against encroachments on drains in Karachi. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is launching operations at 12 locations in the city from September 2.
According to the administration, mosques were evacuated at night and announcements were made in the morning to evacuate the settlements around Gujjar Nalla.
The announcement also said that the citizens would be responsible for the damage if the house was not vacated. The purpose of the operation is to save Karachi from the devastation of the coming rains.
Encroachments on drains will be removed during the grand operation, which started from New Karachi Zero Point. Excessive buildings will be demolished during the operation.
In this regard, residents of FC area protested against the operation last night. The house built on the drain was directed to be vacated by 7 am.
In the second part of the operation, encroachments from Cafe Pyala to Tin Hatti will be eliminated. The operation will start from Cafe Pyala and the encroachments up to Zia-ud-Din Hospital will be demolished.
There will be simultaneous operation against encroachments at 3 places simultaneously. In the first phase, there will be an operation against fences, shops and other encroachments.
The first phase includes Punjab Colony, Christian Colony FC Area, Musa Colony and some areas of Mujahid Colony, whose houses were directed to be demolished on Wednesday.
Victims evacuating from affected areas were promised alternative accommodation.
