ISLAMABAD: Health experts have recommended the government to hike cigarette taxes by at least 30% to reduce tobacco use among Pakistan’s youth, citing findings from a World Health Organization (WHO) research regarding increased tobacco usage in the country.
On Friday, a joint press conference was held at the National Press Club in this regard.
Speakers asked that tobacco taxes be raised in the future budget for 2021-22. Tobacco taxes are an important part of a complete tobacco control plan, according to Ch. Sana Ullah Ghuman, secretary-general of the Pakistan National Heart Association (Panah).
