In a major development, the government has decided to increase the stipend of Benazir Income Support Programme (BSIP) beneficiaries by Rs, 2000 per annum.
The decision is taken in the meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) headed by the finance minister Shaukat Tarin on Monday.
It must be noted that the ECC met a week before the meeting of the Board of Directors of the World Bank that is taking up Pakistan’s request for two budget support loans totaling $800 million.
One of the prior conditions for qualifying one loan was to increase the size of the cash disbursements to the BISP beneficiaries, according to the Ministry of Finance documents.
