Religious leaders from throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gathered here on Monday to reaffirm their support for the rights of girls, women, and other vulnerable in society reported to Dawn.
According to a statement released here, they were speaking during a conversation on ending child marriages organized by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), and the Child Welfare and Protection Commission.
Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Chairman of the CII, said religious leaders from around Pakistan were asked to join them in the effort to eradicate harmful cultural practices like child marriage by raising awareness and behavioral change.
Khateeb Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said faith-based programs were critical in promoting behavioral and attitudinal change to discourage forced marriages.
