PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, has said that dictators in different periods have weakened the judiciary by making arbitrary amendments, and some judges have also given dictators the power to amend the constitution which they demanded. These are ugly stains on the forehead of justice, which can never be washed away.
Addressing an all-party conference organized by the Pakistan Bar Council in Islamabad, Shahbaz Sharif said that, today we have no shame in admitting that we have made mistakes in the past. When the dictator and some judges played with the judiciary, political parties and civil society did not play their part. “Crying over the past will not do anything, but we have to move forward, learning from the past,” he said. If we do not learn the lesson and do not respect the constitution which has united everyone, including Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab, then God willing, Pakistan can be harmed.
