A powerful explosion in a gas pipeline took place at Karachi’s Shershah Paracha Chowk area leaving at least 10 people killed and several others injured, Geo News reported Saturday.

Trauma Centre chief Dr Sabir Memon shared that the health facility has received 10 bodies while 13 injured are being treated, all of them in critical condition.

Karachi Police spokesperson confirmed that the explosion took place in a gas pipeline, damaging the nearby building of a private bank and several cars parked there.

Officials said that the building was constructed on the nullah.

Personnel of rescue services and law enforcement agencies have reached the spot, police said, adding that the injured have been shifted to Karachi’s Trauma Centre.

The area has been cordoned off while the rescue operation is underway.

Eyewitnesses on the spot claim that there are many people who are buried underneath the debris of the building. A tractor has been called to remove the debris and rescue any persons trapped there.
