Pakistan displayed remarkable resilience at the WSF World Team Squash Championship 2024 but narrowly lost 2-1 to Germany in a gripping playoff held in Hong Kong, China.

The World Team Squash Championship playoff began with a thrilling encounter between Germany’s Raphael Kandra and Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan. In a grueling five-game battle that lasted 58 minutes, Kandra triumphed with a 3-2 victory, posting scores of 11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9.

Pakistan leveled the tie in the second match as Nasir Iqbal delivered a stellar performance against Germany’s Yannik Omlor. Dominating from start to finish, Nasir secured a commanding 3-0 win with scores of 11-8, 11-2, 11-6 in just 27 minutes.

The decisive clash featured Germany’s squash legend Simon Rösner against Pakistan’s rising talent Noor Zaman. Noor started strong, taking the first game 11-8, but Rösner’s experience came through as he claimed the next three games 11-7, 11-5, 11-4, wrapping up the match in 38 minutes and securing Germany’s overall victory.

Despite the loss, Pakistan is now gearing up for the SC6 playoff match against Canada, set for Thursday at 4:30 PM PST. The team remains determined to end the World Team Squash Championship on a positive note.
