Hafiz Hamdullah Highlights Backdoor Talks with PTI Founder, May 9 Issue Remains Key Obstacle

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Hafiz Hamdullah, in an interview with a channel on Monday, shed light on ongoing backchannel discussions involving the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). However, he noted that the events of May 9 remain a significant stumbling block in reaching any resolution.

“Matters are progressing behind the scenes with the PTI founder, but the May 9 incident continues to be a sticking point,” Hamdullah said. He added that the PTI leader maintains his innocence, questioning why he should seek forgiveness over the issue.

Hamdullah revealed that the PTI founder is also resistant to the idea of leaving the country. “During a meeting, the PTI leader raised questions about elections, asking, ‘How can they happen in this situation?’”

Despite the challenges, Hamdullah acknowledged that a breakthrough with the PTI founder cannot be ruled out entirely.

Criticism of Government and Opposition Parties

Hafiz Hamdullah criticized Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for actions that contradicted their prior promises. He questioned the legitimacy of the current government, saying, “This is not a government, and I do not accept their mandate.”

The JUI leader warned of dire consequences if the government completed its tenure, stating it would come “at the cost of wreaking havoc on the country.”

Stance on Military Courts

In response to a question, Hamdullah made it clear that the JUI firmly opposes the establishment of military courts. “The JUI will not support military courts under any circumstances,” he asserted.

This interview highlights ongoing political tensions and the complexities of behind-the-scenes negotiations in Pakistan’s volatile political landscape.
