ISLAMABAD: IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir has been removed from his post following a dispute with Lahore Police Chief Omar Sheikh, and Inam Ghani has been appointed as the new IG Punjab.
Prime Minister Imran Khan approved the change of IG Punjab and approved the appointment of Inam Ghani as the new IG Punjab. IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir said that the new Chief of Police of Capital City, Omar Sheikh, was not appointed on my advice. If CCPO Lahore Omar Sheikh is not removed, I will not remain as IG Punjab. Omar Sheikh had also spoken against the IG, which had intensified the controversy.
IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir also met Prime Minister Imran Khan on the other side Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar met with new Lahore CCPO Omar Sheikh. The deadlock between the Punjab Police and Lahore Police Chiefs was maintained for three days, and IG Punjab Shoaib Dastgir did not come to his office for the third day today to perform his duties.
Besides, an emergency meeting of senior police officers was held at the CPO office in Lahore, who expressed reservations over the change of IG Punjab. The meeting was attended by Additional IGs, DIGs, SSPs, and AIGs. He said that action should be taken against CCPO for misconduct and violation of the chain of command. Will not obey the order of the PO.
