Every day, Karachi generates over 13,000 tonnes of garbage.
To address solid waste management issues, the City District Government of Karachi (now defunct) conducted research that revealed that roughly 8,000 tons of solid trash were generated every day in Karachi in 2014. However, the quick development of new housing sectors and industrial estates, as well as construction activities and a variety of institutions, have all contributed to trash production over the years. The amount of solid trash produced has increased dramatically to 13,000 tons per day, owing to rising population and economic growth.
Solid waste generation is expected to reach 18,000 to 20,000 tons per day by 2024, according to estimates. The current inefficient solid waste management procedures necessitate the creation of a solid waste management mechanism. The primary areas of concern are obviously a lack of planning, inadequate technology, and bad administration, which necessitate a substantial effort by government authorities and other entities to promote efficiency in solid waste management.
