KARACHI: Students of the Information Technology Department of Lyari University have introduced the world’s cheapest digital stick, making it easier for the visually impaired.
A team of students of Lyari University under the supervision of their supervisor Dr. Shafiq Awan has developed a modern stick at a cost of only Rs. 3,000 which is connected to a mobile application. This application informs blind people about the obstacles in the way of English, Sindhi, and Punjabi besides Urdu through voice and any other language can be added. Visually impaired people can notify their family or friends of their location at the click of a button.
Shehzad Ghulam Mustafa, Shehzad Munir, and Mohammad Hamza Ali, from a middle-class family, are part of a team of young people who have developed a magic wand for the visually impaired, as part of their final project at BSIT. This stick has been developed and its mobile application has also been developed.
Shehzad Ghulam Mustafa said that during the outbreak of Corona where educational institutions were closed, we developed this application and stick in three months under the supervision of our supervisor Dr. Shafiq Awan, which consists of four modern ultrasonic sensors. Can be used for one week after one charge.
