In a major development, Pakistan is elected as a regular member of the International Labor Organization (ILO’s) Governing Body on Monday.
Pakistan is one of the four newly elected countries which joined the list through a proper election held virtually at the 109th session of the International Labor Conference (ILC) in Geneva.
The Governing Body is the ILO’s highest policy and decision-making body, with 56 Regular members (28 Governments, 14 Employers, and 14 Workers).
Pakistan has been a regular member of the ILO’s executive arm for seven terms since joining the organization in 1947. This election result demonstrates the international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s strong leadership credentials.
Pakistan joined the Governing Body at a difficult time in the World of Work. Mitigating the socioeconomic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and reviving economic growth requires increased international cooperation, dialogue, and assistance.
