Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said that no new coal power plants will be built from now on and that the country would switch to renewable energy sources by 2030.
The prime minister lauded the organizers of the Middle East Green Initiative Summit, which was sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and aimed to deal with climate change.
“On a global scale, 10% of countries are responsible for 80% of climate change,” he added.
Pakistan would shift 60 percent of its power generation to renewable energy resources by 2030, he added, announcing measures to address the problem. “From now on, no new coal-fired power-generation projects will be launched,” he stated.
