Vlogger Rajab Ali Butt has been sentenced to one year of community service by a special judicial magistrate after being convicted of illegally possessing a lion cub. As part of the sentence, Butt is required to create monthly vlogs promoting animal rights.

The verdict, issued by Magistrate Hamidul Rehman Nasir, mandates that Butt record a five-minute video on animal rights during the first week of each month from February 2025 to January 2026. These videos aim to raise public awareness about wildlife protection.

Butt admitted to possessing the lion cub without a valid license, which is an offense under Section 21 of the Punjab Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation, and Management) Act 1974. The law carries penalties of up to two years in prison, a fine of Rs10,000 to Rs15,000, or both. The court acknowledged Butt’s remorse and his willingness to educate others, opting for community service as an alternative to traditional punishment.

Magistrate Nasir emphasized that the nature of the offense and Butt’s forthright admission made community service an appropriate corrective measure. Probation Officer Maheen Solat has been assigned to oversee the vlogger’s community service, while the lion cub has been temporarily relocated to the Lahore Wildlife Safari Zoo as part of an interim arrangement.
