An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has sentenced Hafiz Saeed, head of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa, to 10 and a half years in prison for financing terrorism. The court sentenced four persons including Hafiz Saeed in two cases, in which Prof. Zafar Iqbal and Yahya Mujahid were sentenced to ten and a half years, while Prof. Hafiz Abdul Rehman Maki was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Judge Arshad Hussain Bhatta’s court on Thursday passed judgment on cases No. 16/19 and 25/19 filed by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
Professor Hafiz Mohammad Saeed has been arrested since July 2019, and four cases have been decided against him so far. The CTD has registered a total of 41 cases against the Jamaat-ud-Dawa leaders. Of these, 24 cases have been decided while the rest are pending in the ATC courts. According to the court’s decision, the convicts will serve the current sentences and the previous sentences at the same time.
