Afghan authorities have started to release 400 Taliban prisoners to move peace talks further. The efforts are considered to be a part of the US-Taliban peace deal signed in February 2020. Earlier, the three-day Loya Jirga, a traditional meeting of Afghan leaders approved the release of prisoners. However, it is evident that many of the released prisoners are accused of serious offenses such as attacks on high profile targets. However, the release was considered a key chess piece in launching the inter-Afghan peace talks.
