Unidentified armed men shot dead two tribal elders in the North Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday, reported local media.
According to police, the two elders were traveling to their village on a motorcycle when they were attacked on Dattakhel road in Miranshah, the main town of North Waziristan. Police shifted the bodies to the hospital for autopsy and later handed them over to the bereaved families for burial.
The motive behind the murder was not clear immediately. No one has claimed responsibility for the murder.
Target killing incidents are witnessing an increase in North Waziristan. On July 24, unidentified armed men shot dead a local cricketer in Harmuz village in Mir Ali tehsil. The victim, Wajid, was standing outside his home when unidentified armed men opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police said it is apparently an incident of target killing, and further investigation was underway. Wajid was a well-known cricket player in his area, and his death left the entire area in grief.
