After violent anti-France protests devastated large parts of the country this week, the French embassy in Pakistan has urged all French nationals and companies to temporarily leave the country.
“French nationals and companies are advised to temporarily leave Pakistan due to serious threats to French interests,” the embassy said in an email to French citizens.
“Existing commercial airlines will carry out the departures.”
Since President Emmanuel Macron’s government expressed support for a magazine’s right to republish blasphemous caricatures portraying the Holy Prophet, anti-French sentiment has been simmering in Pakistan for months (peace be upon him).
