The government launched the ‘Meri Gari Scheme’ in order to help the people.
Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin stated at the National Assembly budget session that the government has abolished customs and regulatory duties on automobiles up to 850cc under the program.
New automobiles with engines under 800cc have also been spared from the advance customs duty, according to the finance minister.
He said that the government has reduced the sales tax on locally produced vehicles from 17 percent to 12.5 percent. He also stated that the government has exempted 850cc cars from Federal Excise Duty (FED) and that electric car duties will be reduced.
